About the Collection: These ten skits were written and used for adult Religious Education classes. Author Mike Hotchkiss says that people will often remember a point longer if they see it in action as well as hear the words. Each vignette conveys a Biblical message, and contains characters that can be played by men or women. References to the scriptures are in the table of contents for convenience. Everyone likes to act out a part, and these plays can be memorized or given a “live reading” in the classroom.

from Cost of Discipleship:

Bob: I see you finished your carpentry project.
Lee: Such as it is.
Bob: What do you mean? This is a great bookshelf. I’d be proud to have it in my house.
Lee: Look at it! Not all of the angles are right, the glue shows, there are two nicks in the side, the stain is uneven, and the varnish came out streaked.
Bob: It may not be a bookshelf you’d find in a fine furniture shop, but it’s a nice, useful, respectable shelf in its own right.
Lee: But I want my furniture to be able to be in those fine shops.
Bob: Maybe it will some day, but you have to pay your dues first.
Lee: I’ve been going to those furniture construction courses forever now. And before those were the furniture repair and refinishing classes. And before that were my basic and advanced woodshop classes. It seems like a major portion of my life.
Bob: Yes, you have put a lot of energy into it.
Lee: From the time I made a tie rack in my first wood shop class, I felt a great attraction to wood—handling it, shaping it, molding it, fabricating objects with it. Then with the first footstool I made, I knew I was hooked. I knew I’d want a shop of my own one day to make furniture and to build it for me and other people.
Bob: That’s quite a dream.
