SETTING:
Empty stage, five friends milling around, bored.
Fan #1: (Looking at newspaper)
I don’t believe it! It absolutely can’t be true!!
Others: What? What?!
Fan #1: The celebrity is coming!
Fan #2: Who’s coming?
Fan #3: Which celebrity?
Fan #1: (Shows newspaper article) This one!
They all gather around. Screams
of delerium.
Fan #2: To our town?
Fan #1: Can you believe it?
Fan #3: Here, right here where we live?
Fan #4: Touching the same ground we touch! Looking at the same trees we
see?
Fan #1: It is unbelievable.
They start jumping up and down,
still thrilled.
ALL: It’s unbelievable!

About
the Playwrightt:
Paul Patton is currently an associate professor of communication andtheater
at Spring Arbor University in Michigan. His teaching and research
interests are in communication theory, cultural analysis, and performance
practice. Paul was in pastoral ministry for fifteen years at Trinity Church
in Livonia, Michigan, where he was also the founder of Trinity House Theater,
now celebrating its 23rd season. He also worked as a radio talk-show
host at WMUZ in Detroit, and wrote comedy sketches for WCCM in Ypsilanti.
He is an award-winning playwright, with over twenty produced plays.
He is married to Bethany Dean, and has three daughters: Jessica,
Emily, and Grace.
